Three Cups Of Tea

In chapters one and two, Greg Mortenson and his friend Darsney go on a journey to get to Askole (a village on the mountain) so they can climb K2. Mortenson gets separated from Darsney and befriends a guild named Mouzafer and they wind up in a village called Korphe. Mortenson is a man that doesn't think of himself first. In Chapter One, Mortenson and Darsney, though exhausted, respond to a cry for help when no one else would help. A fellow traveler states, "Greg and Jon are the real heroes...they gave up their summit bid to get Etienne down"(14). They give up the chance to go on the hike they've been waiting for to help someone in need. Mortenson is astounded by his surroundings and the beauty of nature. He says, "All summer, I'd looked at these mountains as goals...for the first time, I simply saw them. It was overwhelming"(19). Mortenson expresses that the nature surrounding him is so wonderful that he is overwhelmed and blessed to be there. He has so much passion for every one of his interests and is a very good story teller.
